🚤 30 Meters Down: Wrecks, Rays & a Turtle Farewell
Some dives you log… and some dives you live.
This week, I had the absolute joy of guiding a deep adventure dive to an old sailboat wreck resting peacefully at 30 meters depth — just one of those magical Gran Canaria sites that seems to hold a little something extra every time we visit.
We dropped in with Blue Water Diving, the usual calm before the descent. As we sank down into the blue, the sailboat slowly revealed itself below — an eerie, elegant silhouette surrounded by curious marine life. The visibility was crisp, the conditions ideal.
Within minutes, we were completely surrounded by a shimmering school of fish — like we had been invited into their watery ballet. Cameras were clicking, eyes were wide behind masks. And then it got even better.
From beneath the sandy edge of the wreck, a torpedo ray emerged and slowly glided past us. It didn’t seem bothered at all. These electric rays are fascinating to watch — so graceful, yet packing serious power under that calm surface.
Moments later, we spotted the unmistakable shape of an angel shark, half-buried and blending perfectly into the seabed. Always a rare treat to see, especially in full chill mode like this one. A true ambassador of the Canarian underwater world.
And just when we thought the dive had peaked, we began our ascent and out of the blue… a sea turtle joined us. Effortlessly cruising alongside the group like it knew we needed a little moment of magic to finish the dive.
Seriously — wreck, rays, sharks and a turtle? That’s not just a dive, that’s a memory etched in saltwater.
